Chennai Corporation Dy.Mayor Benjamin ward in Nerkundrum flooded with drainage water – Residents disappointed:

A kilometer behind Koyambedu Market is situated Nerkundrum. After the inclusion of the outskirts of Chennai into Chennai Corporation, Nerkundram has been included in Ward Number 145 of Chennai Corporation. The Deputy Mayor of Chennai Corporation Mr. Benjamin is the respective councilor of the ward.

Nerkundrum consists of few nagars of which Alagammal Nagar is one among it. The residents of 1st main road of Alagammal Nagar complain that the area is flooded with Drainage water for more than ten years and many complaints were given to Mr. Manoharan the then President of Nerkundrum Panchayat. After the inclusion of this area into the limits of Chennai Corporation the same complaint was made to the Deputy Mayor and the councilor the ward Mr. Benjamin and to the local body authorities in their respective zonal office and there had been no proper response or any prospective action been taken by any of them till date.

It is the duty of every councilor to visit their wards on a regular basis. Residents also complain that the councilor of the ward number 145, Mr. Benjamin who is the Deputy Mayor of Chennai Corporation has made very few visits to their particular area. It is also said that during the Local Body Elections the pooling in the booths of Nerkundrum was not favourable to the councilor and was favourable to the opponent Mr. Allen of MDMK during elections and now in DMK.

Residents are very much upset because politics is playing a pivotal role and residents suffer living in improper drainage system and overflowing of drainage water in streets and main roads. Residents mainly complain that the stagnated drainage water breeds mosquitoes and flies and are scared that the school going children and old aged people may be affected by Malaria and other deadly diseases.

Hope Chennai Corporation would initiate necessary action to clear the overflowing drainage water on streets and main roads.
